New Year’s Day Swim 2021

Happy New Year one & all- well that was certainly a turbulent twelve months wasn’t it?

Putting a global pandemic, multiple lockdowns & Brexit behind us I headed to London’s Royal Docks bright & breezy today (New Year’s Day) for the annual open-water swim.

The water in the docks was a fresh 6.9 degrees, but that didn’t seem to deter anyone:

An estimated 200 hardy swimmers descended on the docks!

Under the flightpath of London City Airport & directly beneath the Emirates Air Line, groups of 30 at a time filed along the pontoon & into the ice-cold water:

Some had a quick dip…

I spotted this young woman from the other end of the pontoon. By the time I’d got back to the water’s edge, she’d already got out!

Others were a little braver. This toughened gent in his “Chilli Willy” shorts was in the water a good half-hour…

Exiting like he was stepping out of a hot bath…

Happy New Year all- Enjoy!
